Ανιχνεύοντας τις επιπτώσεις της χρηματιστικοποίησης και της λιτότητας, το The Broken Pitcher αφορά συγκεκριμένη υπόθεση: Μια κρίσιμη συνάντηση σε τράπεζα, όπου βρίσκεται υπό διαπραγματεύση η εκποίηση μιας οικογενειακής κατοικίας στη Λάρνακα της Κύπρου το 2019. Οι εκποιήσεις είναι ένα από τα μέτρα λιτότητας που επιβλήθηκαν στην κυπριακή κυβέρνηση από την Τρόικα (Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, Ευρωπαϊκή Κεντρική Τράπεζα και Διεθνές Νομισματικό Ταμείο) μετά την οικονομική κρίση του 2012.
Με την ταινία του Abbas Kiarostami First Case - Second Case (1979, Ιράν) ως αναφορά, η κινηματογραφημένη αναπαράσταση της συνάντησης στην τράπεζα προβάλλεται σε άτομα, τα οποία καλούνται να απαντήσουν στην ερώτηση: «Κατά την άποψη σας, τι πρέπει να κάνουν οι υπάλληλοι της τράπεζας;». Οι απαντήσεις που παρουσιάζονται συνοψίζουν οπτικές ατόμων από ομάδες διαφορετικών υποβάθρων στην Κύπρο και αλλού, συμπεριλαμβανομένων ακτιβιστών για το δικαίωμα στη στέγαση, ατόμων με αντίστοιχες εμπειρίες, πολιτικών προσώπων, δικηγόρων, οικονομολόγων και καλλιτεχνών.
Το The Broken Pitcher προβάλλεται με αφορμή τις πέρα από 700 εκποιήσεις που αναμένεται να πραγματοποιηθούν στην Κύπρο το καλοκαίρι του 2023. Παράλληλα τοποθετεί το συγκεκριμένο ζήτημα αναστοχαστικά ως προς την αποικιακή ιστορία της οικονομίας, του χρέους και της ιδιοκτησίας. Αναζητώντας δυνατότητες αλλαγής του σεναρίου μέσα από την αλληλεπίδραση με αυτό, παρουσιάζεται εκτεταμένο ερευνητικό υλικό εντός του χώρου προβολής.
Στην εκδήλωση λήξης του φεστιβάλ και στα πλαίσια της προβολής της ταινίας The Broken Pitcher, κυκλοφορεί ο ομώνυμος δίσκος The Broken Pitcher: A Soundbank από τη Moneda. Ο Εμίντιο Βάσκεζ, ιδρυτής της δισκογραφικής και σειράς δράσεων Moneda (Κύπρος & Αριζόνα), μαζί με την Έλενα Σαββίδου, τον Δημήτρη Χειμώνα, την Μπελίντα Παπαβασιλείου και τον Μάριο Παύλου, παρουσιάζουν περφόρμανς στην οποία το κοινό παρακολουθεί τη διαδικασία έκδοσης του δίσκου ενώ παράλληλα συμμετέχει σε συλλογική ακρόαση.

Tracing the effects of financialisation and austerity, the collaborative project The Broken Pitcher by Natascha Sadr Haghighian, Marina Christodoulidou and Peter Eramian attends to a concrete case: A crucial meeting at a bank, negotiating the foreclosure of a family home in Larnaka, Cyprus, in 2019. Foreclosure is one of the austerity measures that were imposed on the Cypriot government by the Troika (the EU Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund) after the financial crisis in 2012.
Inspired by Abbas Kiarostami’s film First Case - Second Case (1979, Iran), the filmed reenactment of the bank meeting is shown to people from various backgrounds who are asked to respond to the question: “In your opinion what should the bank employees do?”. The responses encompass perspectives of people from different interest groups in Cyprus and beyond, including housing rights activists in Barcelona, Berlin and Beirut, persons who are similarly affected by these policies, public figures, lawyers, economists and artists.
The Broken Pitcher is presented in response to more than 700 foreclosures expected to occur on the island over summer 2023, while also situating the matter in relation to the colonial history of finance, debt and property. Seeking out potentials for changing the script while interacting with it, extensive research material is made available in the projection room.

On the festival’s closing event and in tandem with the looped screening of The Broken Pitcher, the eponymous record The Broken Pitcher: A Soundbank is being released. Emiddio Vasquez, founder of the label and event series Moneda (Cyprus & Arizona), together with Elena Savvidou, Dimitris Chimonas, Belinda Papavasiliou and Marios Pavlou give a performance in which attendants witness the manufacturing process of the record while engaging in collective listening.
