Master Class: Documenting a Conflict with 5 Broken Cameras
An extraordinary work of both cinematic and political activism, 5 Broken Cameras is a deeply personal, first-hand account of non-violent resistance in Bil'in, a West Bank village threatened by encroaching Israeli settlements. Shot almost entirely by Palestinian farmer Emad Burnat, the footage was later given to Israeli co-director Guy Davidi to edit and to create a story out of the 700 tapes of Emad's footage. In the Master Class, Guy Davidi and Emad Burnat will talk about the creative process behind their film· a film which makes for an intensely powerful personal document about one village's struggle against violence and oppression.

Lecture: A Defence of Documentary by Michael Chanan
Film festivals nowadays often show films that border on the edge between fiction and reality, and modern scepticism has placed the old idea of documentary as objective truth in doubt. Does this mean it's just another form of fiction? In this illustrated lecture, Michael Chanan, who is both a film scholar and a seasoned documentarist, argues that the screen is a more subtle space of representation than the simple opposition between fiction and reality allows for, and documentary doesn't have to be objective to fulfil its task.
