Η Leni Riefenstahl θεωρείται μία από τις πιο αμφιλεγόμενες γυναίκες του 20ού αιώνα, τόσο ως καλλιτέχνιδα όσο και ως προπαγανδίστρια του ναζιστικού καθεστώτος. Οι ταινίες της Triumph of the Will και Olympia αποτελούν παραδείγματα εξιδανικευμένης απεικόνισης του σώματος και λατρείας της υπεροχής. Ταυτόχρονα, όμως, οι εικόνες αυτές προβάλλουν περιφρόνηση για το ατελές και το αδύναμο. Η αισθητική της Riefenstahl είναι σήμερα πιο διαδεδομένη από ποτέ — ισχύει όμως άραγε το ίδιο και για το ιδεολογικό της υπόβαθρο;

Leni Riefenstahl is considered one of the most controversial women of the 20th century as an artist and a Nazi propagandist. Her films Triumph of the Will and Olympia stand for perfectly staged body worship and the celebration of the superior and victorious. At the same time, these images project contempt for the imperfect and weak. Riefenstahl’s aesthetics are more prevalent today than ever—but does the same hold true for their underlying message?
